- פָּלַםto be round, smooth (cmp. Arab. tafailam pinguis fuit); only in part. Pu. מְפוּלָּם smooth, viscous.Pl. מְפוּלָּמִין, מְפוּלָּמוֹת. Bets.24b דגים המפ׳ moist fish (fresh-caught). Zeb.54a אבנים מפ׳ smooth stones (fresh from the ground). Ḥag.12a (expl. בהו Gen. 1:2) אלו אבנים המפ׳וכ׳ that means the smooth (chaotic) stones which are sunk in the deep (with ref. to אבני בהו, Is. 34:11); Yalk. Gen. 4.Targ. Job 28:3 אבנין מפולמיןוכ׳ (Ms. ed. Wil. מְפוּלָּמָן) smooth (chaotic) stones out of which darkness proceeds (h. text אבן אפל).
